MY NEWS AND ESCAPADES

Items filtered by date: June 2019

In May 2019, I attended a workshop on Landscape Photography, run by Julie Fletcher Photography.  It was held at the Lamington National Park in Queensland.

Over the course of the 4 day workshop, I observed several attributes that made the workshop a resounding success.  It was well organised, duty of care to attendees in potentially ardous and hazardous situations was clearly demonstrated, more than sufficiently well catered and in one of the most glorious surroundings Queensland has to offer.  Group camaraderie was one of the best I have experienced and it is not something that can be orchestrated.

Julie’s skill in the many aspects of  landscape photography was awe inspiring and generously shared.  Her opportunistic eye with composition, light , texture, colour and cameral technique was the most significant and memorable skill that I took away with me.

It has been a privilege to learn the art of Landscape Photography under the guidance of Julie Fletcher whose passion for her craft is both admirable and inspiring.

Hey Georgina and Julie here are testimonials for you:

Georgina: This was the best bird workshop I have ever done. Georgina combines photographic skill with a joyous bush craft to create a wonderful week of bird photography. You really feel empowered not just to take your photography to a new level but you gain a new appreciation for seeing birds in their habitat and sharing that beauty with others.

Julie: Its cold at 5am but for the chance to learn landscape photography with Julie I cant think of a better reason to get out of bed. I learnt so much from Julie’s landscape workshop in Lamington National Park - what works, what doesn’t and most of all, how to feel part of the moment, part of the scene you want to share and make that a photo.

Hey Julie / Georgie,

I couldn’t believe my luck when my two all time favourite photographers, Julie Fletcher (Landscape) and Georgina Steytler (Birds) collaborated to deliver the Lammington National Park photography workshop.

I already knew what Julie could deliver having previously been on her amazing Lake Eyre workshop and was so excited to meet again and learn more new skills in a rain forest setting.

As always, Julie took the time to check out the locations beforehand to find the best breathtaking positions for her students to capture that next great photo.

I was also super excited to meet Georgina.  As a bird photographer, she is next level. I am a huge fan of her work and like Julie, she is more than happy to share her knowledge.

Both Julie and Georgina were friendly, approachable, attentive and more than happy to share their set-ups, techniques, settings, composition suggestions and post processing tips. Be warned, you may end up crawling on your stomach in mud to get that next great photo but it was sooooooo worth it.

Above all, it was so much fun and new friends were made.  I have come away a better photographer

Hi Julie, Thanks for another brilliant workshop! Once again it was full on, but building on from last time meant it wasn't quite so head-spinning as the first one when everything was new. The challenges you set were great for making me think about my shots a bit more and…
